A Growing Field
By Jayne Keedle

This article is about John Christian. His workdays begins at 7 am. When he gets up and get ready that first thing that he does is he lets that chicken out of the hen house. . Three years ago after he bought the farm he doesn’t expect to get rich as an orgaChristian is 33 years old he bought the property. He wanted it to raise chickens and goatsnic farmer. In 2005 the average age of the income was $15,603. He just grows mostly greens and flowers.
Farming was a tradition and it went on for generations. But it has been going down. Like in 2006 there were 1.3 million farmers in the United States. Right now eighty percent of those were self- farmers and ranchers. The United States Bureau of Labr noted that small scale farming is a major growth area and offers that best opportunity for entering the occupation.
The only way to become a good farmer is to be a farmer and work harder and harder. People and students works on CSA to get good at farming. CSA is a program gives people in the community members pay a fee that entitle them to a weekly supply of produce. Christian quoted “I DON’T REALLY THINK THERE IS A DAY OFF…..BECAUSE IT’S MORE OF A LIFESTYLE.”
